Special remark |
The Aosta Valley is also located between two worlds (Italy and France) when it comes to wine. There are two extreme climatic features here: a higher number of hours of sunshine per year than even in Sicily and the large mirror surfaces of the snow and glacier fields of the surrounding mountains such as the Matterhorn, San Paradiso, Mont Blanc and Monte Rosa, to name just the most famous. Wine is therefore grown here at altitudes of up to 900 metres. Very alcoholic and expressive whites are produced, but also less alcoholic reds. There are a whole range of old indigenous grapes, but also grapes that are known for Burgundy, as well as typical Italian and international grapes. |

Gambero Rosso
Gambero Rosso is an Italian publication specializing in wine evaluation and review. It is best known for its annual wine guide "Vini d'Italia," which features and reviews the best wines in Italy. Wines are classified according to a three-glass system ("Tre Bicchieri"), with three glasses representing the highest award. Gambero Rosso is considered one of the most influential and reputable sources of Italian wine criticism and recommendations.
1 glass 🍷 (Bicchiere) :
Wines that receive 1 glass are considered solid and well-made wines that reflect their regional character. They are drinkable and offer good value for money, but they do not necessarily stand out for special sophistication or exceptional quality.
2 glasses 🍷🍷 (Due Bicchieri) :
Wines that receive 2 glasses already show a higher quality. These wines not only have a typical character and good structure, but also a more noticeable depth and complexity. If a wine is labeled as "red" (Rosso) or "bold" , it means that it almost made it to 3 glasses, but fell just short.
3 glasses 🍷🍷🍷 (Tre Bicchieri) :
3 glasses is the highest award in the Gambero Rosso. These wines are considered absolute top wines, exceptional both in terms of their craftsmanship and their expressiveness and aging potential. They represent the best that Italy has to offer and are often among the best wines in the world.
