Special remark |
Unlike in most other renowned wine-growing regions in Italy, the best wines in Sicily come mostly from rather large wineries, which certainly include Donnafugata with just over 300 hectares of land under vines. For us, Mille e una Notte is one of the best and most consistent wines in all of Italy. |

Gambero Rosso
Gambero Rosso is an Italian publication specializing in wine evaluation and review. It is best known for its annual wine guide "Vini d'Italia," which features and reviews the best wines in Italy. Wines are classified according to a three-glass system ("Tre Bicchieri"), with three glasses representing the highest award. Gambero Rosso is considered one of the most influential and reputable sources of Italian wine criticism and recommendations.
1 glass π· (Bicchiere) :
Wines that receive 1 glass are considered solid and well-made wines that reflect their regional character. They are drinkable and offer good value for money, but they do not necessarily stand out for special sophistication or exceptional quality.
2 glasses π·π· (Due Bicchieri) :
Wines that receive 2 glasses already show a higher quality. These wines not only have a typical character and good structure, but also a more noticeable depth and complexity. If a wine is labeled as "red" (Rosso) or "bold" , it means that it almost made it to 3 glasses, but fell just short.
3 glasses π·π·π· (Tre Bicchieri) :
3 glasses is the highest award in the Gambero Rosso. These wines are considered absolute top wines, exceptional both in terms of their craftsmanship and their expressiveness and aging potential. They represent the best that Italy has to offer and are often among the best wines in the world.
